  1. •   A3000 memory prices down again − Atomwide’s 1 to 4M A3000 upgrade is
  2. now down to £355. We now also have Computerware memory boards available
  3. at the same price as the Atomwide ones: £90 and £355. These are the same
  4. format with just 8 chips, as Acorn prefer, providing either 1M or 4M by
  5. using different chips. (With the 4M chips, you don’t end up with 5M,
  6. unfortunately, as one of the four megabytes just duplicates the internal
  7. ram.)

  9. •   A3000 memory prices down again (part 2) − The Morley 1 to 2 M boards
  10. are now down to £90 and the  1 to 4M upgrade boards are on special
  11. offer, while stocks last, at £240. To upgrade from a Morley 1M board to
  12. a 3M, it is still just the difference in price: £240 − £90 = £150. Send
  13. in your old 1M board with a cheque for £150 and we will upgrade it for
  14. you.)

  16. •   A3000 VIDC enhancers − Atomwide have now redesigned the VIDC enhancer
  17. so that it will fit into the A3000 as well as A300/400 series machines.
  18. If you have a multisync monitor, it is well worth thinking of getting a
  19. VIDC enhancer at £35.

  21. •   A310 memory upgrade price drop − Computerware’s memory upgrades have
  22. dropped in price. The 1 to 2M upgrade is now £360 and the 1 to 4M
  23. upgrade is £540. Despite what we put in last month’s issue, these
  24. upgrades will continue to be available from us either as Computerware
  25. upgrades or from another company, as yet undecided. The new company will
  26. take over all the guarantee commitments of Computerware and, in any
  27. case, we at N.C.S. will give a personal guarantee to cover the full 12
  28. months.

  30. •   ARM3 price drop − Aleph One have dropped the price of their 30 MHz
  31. ARM3 upgrade to £495 +VAT. We can now sell them for £520 inc VAT
  32. (compared to the Watford ARM3s at £460).

  34. •   CASA − Computer Aided Structural Analysis of 2D frames is available
  35. from Vision Six. The entry level version at only £150 +VAT copes with up
  36. to 32 members and 32 nodes and will run on a 1M machine. The full
  37. version is £600, needs somewhat more memory, and has a capacity only
  38. limited by the amount of memory (which could be up to 8M, don’t forget,
  39. with Atomwide’s 4 to 8M upgrade).

  41. •   DataSweet − a suite of desktop applications written especially to
  42. develop children’s data handling skills. Each application may be used to
  43. explore data handling techniques from basic graph drawing to full
  44. database searches and spreadsheet calculations. The whole ‘DataSweet’
  45. has been written with the National Curriculum guidelines on data
  46. handling in mind. For further information, contact Hampshire Microtech

  49. •   Desktop Office − is a very impressive looking package from Minerva
  50. which combines, in the multitasking environment, database, wordproces
  51. sor, spreadsheet, graphs & charts and communications packages. This
  52. looks to be excellent value at only £129.95 inc VAT (£120) through
  53. Archive.

  55. •   Minerva price reduction − Not surprisingly, with the launch of Desktop
  56. Office, Minerva are reducing the prices of GammaPlot & SigmaSheet to
  57. £49.95 (£46 through Archive).

  59. •   Memory chips for Willi Langhans’ upgrade − Those who sent an S.A.E.
  60. for the plans of Willi Langhans’ D.I.Y. memory upgrade may wish to know
  61. that we can supply the memory chips at £70 per Mbyte (8 chips).

  63. •   Monitor leads − We now sell extralong (1.2 m) monitor cables (£15) for
  64. use with Acorn or Philips monitors. They also have a connection for
  65. sound so that you can amplify the Archimedes’ sound and have manual
  66. control over the volume.

  68. •   Nevryon − £19.95 from the 4th Dimension (£18 through Archive) is a
  69. fast action sideways scrolling shoot ’em up game. Two discs, 256 colour
  70. graphics, 4 channel stereo, 6 pieces of stereo music, 6 levels of “true
  71. parallax scrolling” and an “amazing array of weaponry for maximum
  72. destruction”!

  74. •   Personal Accounts Special Edition − Apricote Studios have done a new
  75. multitasking version of their Personal Accounts especially for the A3000
  76. and Archimedes. New features include: Automatic standing orders and
  77. forecast ahead, budgeting, 10 bank/credit accounts online at the same
  78. time, calculator, usable for clubs or nonVAT businesses. The new price
  79. is £24.95 or £23 through Archive. If you bought the earlier version, you
  80. can upgrade for the difference in price and your old files are com
  81. pletely compatible. Return your old disc to Apricote (not to Archive)
  82. with a credit card number or cheque for £10.

  84. •   Redshift − an impressive fastscrolling (vertical) arcade game from
  85. Minerva (£17.95 or £17 through Archive).

  87. •   Removable hard drives − The Electric Scribe Co. Ltd are selling a
  88. removable hard drive for the Archimedes. It’s basically the same
  89. mechanism as the Oak drive but only costs £749 +VAT though this does not
  90. include a SCSI podule. See the SCSI Column on page 12 and the advert on
  91. page 13 for more details.

  93. •   Shareware 30 − Although we mentioned Sharewares 31 and 32 last month,
  94. we seem to have omitted to mention Shareware 30 which contains various
  95. soundtracker modules plus a soundtracker test program.

  97. •   Careware 8 also got missed out of the honourable mentions. It contains
  98. a ‘Primary’ word processor, yet another 256 colour art package, desktop
  99. ‘Life’, graphics demos, mouse patience, bat’n’ball game with a differ
  100. ence, ‘peggity’ game, various Maestro files, FWPlus file conversion,
  101. autodisc formatter, disc label designer, line editor module, movable
  102. icon bar, 01 to 071/081 conversion, RMA manager.

  104. •   Tabs − the 3D model making software from TAP Consortium is now
  105. available in its fullrelease version. This software allows you to create
  106. models on screen and then get the computer to print out an exploded view
  107. of the model which can be used to cut out and make a 3D model. (We have
  108. a review version and need someone working in an educational CDT
  109. environment to try it out. You would need to have access to a Plotmate
  110. A3M or HGPL compatible plotter.)

  112. •   WorraCAD − a mistake on the Price List last month gave the price as
  113. £70 − it should have been £80, sorry! Oak’s own price is £75 +VAT =
